This lovely, angular 19th-century summer house is the former home of writer and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, who authored his famous essays, "The American Scholar" and "Self Reliance," while living there. It was the site of his death, in 1882, and holds to this day many of his original furniture, paintings, and other memorabilia. It lies downtown, a couple blocks east of Emerson Playground.
