The 3,600-acre Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is dominated by an enormous stretch of freshwater wetlands. In these protected marshes an array of wildlife thrives, particularly migratory bird species—the Refuge is a popular destination for birders. It lies along 12 miles of the Concord and Sudbury Rivers, about 20 miles west of Boston.
